    "The better steak and shake."

When asked to describe Freddy's, I use the above saying. For some reason, Freddy's just taste better. I always get the same meal every time I visit which is the California burger. Those onions are delicious on that burger. I also love tossing some seasoning on those fries before you dip them in either one of the Fry sauces. Just typing about the food makes me crave it. Too bad they don't have a Freddy's where I live.

We've made it tradition to visit every Sunday before I depart back home.

    Atmosphere: +2/5
The environment felt like an old 60's restaurant, which is nice if it was a clean one. Definitely a place to pick up and go.

    Food: +2/5
Food was overall ok, not the worse but not the best. The sauces are probably the only noticeable thing about the place.

    Food Eaten:
    Freddy's Original Patty Melt
    Onion Rings

    Overall: +2/5

We were craving Culver's for dessert, but didn't see a nearby location so we decided to try Freddys. I'd never heard of them. It seems they have locations "coast to coast" with franchises in many areas, but none in south Florida.

There were lots of kitschy signs around and pictures that dated way back. You'd think it had hundred year old roots. But the chain was actually founded only in 2002 by 2 brothers, Bill and Randy Simon and a friend, Scott Redler. It was named after the brothers' father, Freddy Simon. The first location was in Wichita, Kansas.

We came for the frozen custard. You can get it in a cup or cone. They have 2 flavors -- vanilla and chocolate. They can also combine the two. They also have a ton of toppings that will appeal to kids, too, for additional prices. We just got single scoops -- me chocolate and he chose a combo. It was good, but not knock your socks off. I think that Culver's has them beat for richness and "mouth appeal" as well as flavor. It will do in a pinch, though.

They also offer sundaes, concretes, malts, and shakes. The frozen custard is "freshly churned" throughout the day, per their ads. I'm not quite sure what that means -- is it made every day from scratch or what?

So this review is based solely on trying their custard. We didn't sample their food: Steakburgers, hot dogs, and string fries.

I don't think I'd drive out of my way, again, but would certainly give them another try when craving this type of ice cream. There aren't that many places that serve custard -- and it's my husband's favorite type of ice cream.

Freddy's is like an improved Steak n Shake! The reason I say this is because the customer service is a whole lot better. It's a counter service joint, so you just order your food at the counter and then they call your order number over the speaker when it's ready. No long waits for food and the food quality is great. They have a variety of steak burgers, hot dogs and custard for the person with a sweet tooth. I love their fry sauce, which also comes in a jalapeño variety to give it a bit more of a kick. I actually like the fry sauce on my burger. I only wish that the fries were cut a bit thicker, because they're very thin and I feel like it takes away from the French fry taste? Not sure if that makes sense, but I just prefer my fries to have at least some potato inside when I bite into them. Otherwise, great customer service, great ambience and great food!

Great food and custard. A wonderful mix of many of my favorite burger joints. The fry sauce is on point. Burgers are smash burger style and very flavorful.
